The Fearless Lagos Comic Convention was a blend of business and pleasure as the event served as a platform where ‘creatives’ and fans of the creative industry came together to share ideas and equally have fun doing so. The 8th edition of the event took place concurrently at two locations, Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos and Alliance Française, Ikoyi, Lagos, from the 19th – 21st September 2019.


This year’s 3-day event delivered on its promise to be the biggest and most engaging yet. It featured lots of activities such as Panel Sessions, Master Classes, Exhibitions, Comic Sales, Product Merchandise, Movie Premiere, Competitions and lots more.


Known as Africa’s biggest geek market, the event availed businesses in the creative industry (comics, animation, gaming, film and virtual reality) an opportunity to connect with their audiences, sell their products, network, interact and have fun. Over 6, 500 guests attended the event within the duration of three days!


Notable persons such as Ayodele Elegba (CEO, Spoof Comics.), Ibrahim Ganiyu (CEO ICStudios), Sewedo Nupowaku (Comic Creator),   Ijeoma Onah, Olivier Catherin, Claude Mwamba, and Diana Rosu, amongst others, led the various panel sessions and master classes. They shared their experiences especially, their challenges in the industry and how they are thriving despite the tough economic climate. There were also conversations around the capacity of the comic industry to tell the African story and its commercial potential.


While speaking during a panel session at the event, Ayodele Elegba, Founder, Lagos Comic Con stressed the need for people to take animation more seriously and use it as a tool to tell African stories. He also mentioned that the animation industry is one of the biggest exports from Nigeria. 


Exhibitors at the event expressed their pleasure about the event and were grateful to the organizers. Dami said, “I’m actually impressed, they should continue this because it helps people to network. Some companies actually come here to recruit artists. This is amazing!”  

Speaking about the success of this year’s convention, Ray Anyasi, Event Coordinator, Lagos Comic-Con said: "In these three days, we saw local publishers of novels and comics make millions in sales of their titles, we had exhibitors of game and animation from all over Africa and even from the US." 


Some of the highlights of this year’s event was the exclusive screening of groundbreaking films in animation and CGI/VFX, most notably the Malika Animation project by Youneek and Anthill Studios starring Adesua Etomi, Deyemi Okonlawon and others, an exclusive screening of Hero Cop, yet another animation movie and Foreigner’s God by Ifan Ifeanyi Michael.

Launched in 2012, Lagos Comic Con has since been held annually. The 9th edition is scheduled to hold on 17TH - 19TH September, 2020.
